Call to Order:
Bill Russell called the meeting
to order at 6:45 p.m.
Summary of Action Items for This Meeting:
Action Item 09-09-05: Nikki will speak to Jim Abbot to see if he is
available to provide occasional enforcement statistics at the LCC meetings.
Action Item 09-09-06: Invite Bob Ferguson
in to speak about the Montcalm mine.
Action Item 09-09-07: Name tents or IDs should be provided for all
members.

Letters/Correspondence
- A letter was received from John Kapel inviting
the LCC to visit his saw mill.
- A phone call came from Kees Stryland requesting
an alternate for the CAF FMP and requesting a temporary leave of absence.
Rusty Fink has agreed to back fill for Kees
District Manager Update- Jim Duncan
- Timmins District has hired a full time district
planner and a planning intern.
- Permission has been given to fill the full time
bio position until it is filled.
- Mac Kilgor is the acting area supervisor
- Acting Gogama supervisor will be Joel Legacy
- The Timmins District Manager interviews have
taken place, no results yet.
- There is some harvesting taking place on both
forests.
- With the MNDMF announcement, Mr. Gravelle will
be in town on the 22nd for a tenure Q and A session.
- There is an issue we are dealing with concerning
potential harvesting and eastern cougar conflict.
- Spanish forest open house is Oct 5 th in Gogama
from 3-7pm if anyone is interested in a ride let Jim know.
- October 22nd is the Draft CAF
contingency open house here in Timmins.
- Community improvement funding is available for
non-profit organizations (approximately $8000.00 for a local watershed
project)
Far North Community Planning
Mike Cartan gave a
presentation on the Far North planning initiative (powerpoint attached).
Terms of Reference-Nikki Wood
Nikki reviewed of the Terms
of Reference proposed changes. The following represents the points of
discussion:
- The Terms of Reference needs to be updated to
reflect current members and their affiliations.
- The Terms of Reference needs to better describe
the geographic area of Timmins District that is within its mandate.
- There should be a description of Timmins LCC
mandate as it relates to the Cochrane
Area Forest.
- Should include sharing of Timmins and Cochrane
meeting minutes to both LCCs, possible add Cochrane LCC minutes with Timmins
LCC Website, ensure that a Timmins LCC representative participates on the
Cochrane Forest Planning Team (currently Kees Stryland is a participating
representative)
- Timmins LCC will review all amendments and
revisions pertaining to the Timmins District land-base of the Cochrane Area Forest
Cochrane Area Forest
Update-Nikki Wood
Nikki provided the members
with an update on the progression of the Cochrane Area Forest FMP. The
following represents the points of her discussion:
- Rusty Fink will be the Timmins LCC
representative that sits on the CAF Planning Team
- The CAF is moved to a 2 year Contingency Plan as
they are concerned that the Plan may be bumped up thereby delaying forest
operations.
- The concern is based mainly upon the caribou
strategy.
- A letter recommending a move to a contingency
plan has been endorsed by MOE
- Public Information centres are scheduled to take
place from October 19th through to October 22nd.
- The Public Information centre will be held at
the Ontario Government Complex on October 22nd from 3pm until
7pm.
Romeo Malette Forest FMP
Update-Bob Bielek
Bob provided the members with
an update on the RMF FMP. He addressed the following points:
- There was a bump up request sent in during the
summer concerning aerial spray and it has since been denied.
Round Table Issues/Discussion- All
- Lots of new people around the table
- Welcome back from the summer
- Great meal tonight,
- Good discussion around the table tonight
- Name tags/tents are needed for all the new
members..
